Pirate bay found guilty

This is a major case as they were charged with “assisting” making copyrighted material available. The 4 charged must now pay roughly $3.4 million dollars in damages.

News Story (Torrent Freak)

I feel kinda crushed as I thought sense and justice would prevail,  piracy does not damage the tv and film industry it aids it by opening up new markets and I hate having to wait weeks/months to discuss my favourite shows on the web when everyone is bored of said stroryline or twist!  Everyone will be getting sued left right and centre and a notable point in this article - people will sue ISP’s for assisting illegal content!

Peace out and much love ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

New Look

I will need to modify it slightly and start  marketing this site.  I like this new look - very cool and professional - will chage the rotating images to something more…..manly though!

Apart from that what have I been upto? Work…. and a  lot of xbox.  Complete dead space and I am working through resident evil 5 - after that it’s fallout 3.  Man I wanna be rich and play games all day :D

Google Maps Solution

You may remember I had a problem with getting accurate google maps results (thank you royal mail).  Luckily God sent us Tom Anthony. His pioneering Google Maps with a little jig up in php seems to work a treat.

Link to solution.

Working on manual updates on the older sites for now - so cant stay long.

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

So in the space of 2 years both my laptop and my desktop have died!  How much does that suck.  My dell lasted seven years.  But thank god I just got paid.  I will celebrate by buying a new pc.

If anyone can find any excellent deals - i’m all ears :D.

The future

Over the past week I have become an internet socialite - I have no idea why all of a sudden I take great interest in digg.com and twitter.  Do I have some kind of condition?  Alas I seem to have cracked to the pressure of being geeky AND social.  Damn you internet! Damn you all to hell.

What I do want to share are topics on the future!  I mean will robots kill us all or will we just get sucked into this web of entertainment 24/7.  I have a fear of things like the terminator happening.  I also have a fear of people beinn hooked on computers, and society will be completely based on-screen (like in the legion of superheroes when the guys in the same room are talking over webcam(freaky), yes i did just use brackets in a bracket!).

An update on me. I have been busy. I started and entertainment blog over at www.outsane.net, invested in a new 8Gb usb pen. and I am working on a jobwebsite while working on lots of little listing services - go me.

port4lio v2

okay so I am considering re-booting this project very soon - basic ideas include -

  • allowing users to sign up adding information about themselves, qualifications etc,
  • allow users to categorize themselves i.e. IT, Finance, Nursing
  • allowing users to add images and flash and videos (youtube only).
  • create an rss feed for the site and for each individual user.
  • users pay to be on the front page or in “spotlight areas”.
  • allowing businesses to post job opportunities.
  • using keywords to display these job opportunities to the appropriate candidates

any other ideas? please let me know

The Dew of Mountians

I asked my lovely auntie to bring me mountain dew over from canada (I am not paying £22 for a 36 pack) but she was afraid it would burst on the journey. But I found this:

So everyone sign the petition :D

And my auntie DID bring me over peanut butter M&M’s

Quick Tip

This week it is a php/css alternating background colours in a table of results i.e.

image of alternating table rows

image of alternating table rows

To achieve this is very simple:

Outside the loop that prints out the results create a variable called $cnt:

$cnt = 0;

inside the loop, increment the count and put an if statement checking whether it is an even or odd row and assign a background color accordingly to the value

$cnt++;
//set background color for odd/even rows
$bgcolor = ( $cnt % 2 == 0) ? ('#CCCCCC') : ('#FFFFFF');
echo "<tr style='color=$bgcolor'>";

#rest of your code

Google Maps

Okay, So i have been developing (slowly) the hotel information page for said hotel website that will be announced when its done.  I have a problem with google - more exactly with royal mail.  It seems that royal mail hold copyright to all uk postcodes and the license sold to google with permission to use them comes with certain annoying…….restraints.

I thought that to begin with comparing to postcodes would be enough but I was thrown off by about 100 yards or so.  So I spent all morning developing an AJAX app that gathers the lat and long of the postcode the user enters and compare it to the lat and long of the hotel, I was still off by about 100 yards or so. Does anyone have a more accurate way?  It seems that royal mail wont let google gain accurate geocodes unless you are using a google website.
